We can no longer accept the erasure of our past. There is something we can do to uplift our traumatic past. It requires us to travel to the past, to re-imagine the past, through the mind and vision of someone whose ancestors are from that place.
The Protector answers the call for a re-invigorated history. The ability for a modern-day black female tv cooking show host from Vancouver with Caribbean heritage to travel to her great-grandmother’s tropical homeland during the 18th century, against the backdrop of slavery and European colonization, to restore and preserve her family’s legacy, through a delicious dish—the breadfruit pie. Or so she thought….
The Protector sci-fi podcast series is based on the 2019 short film, Vancouver Breadfruit Pie. The Protector, Shauntelle is a savvy tv host for a cooking show who suddenly finds herself in Tropica—a futuristic 18th century tropical island where she learns that her presence is not a co-incidence.
